National Assembly President Wishes People Happiness on Pchum Ben

KAMPONG CHAM: National Assembly President, Heng Samrin, his family and members of the National Assembly celebrated the 13th Kan Ben at Wat Thkov in Ponhea Krek district, Tbong Khmum province this morning.

President Heng Samrin and all Buddhists at the pagoda made offerings of candles, incense and flowers, counted the number of bowls, and brought gifts, food, drink, and offerings to the monks, in dedication to their ancestors, parents and grandparents, along with the seven relatives and dignitaries, heroes, warriors who sacrificed their lives for the cause of the nation and the people.

During this occasion, the National Assembly President has wished all families happiness and prosperity during the festival. He wished all families traveling near and far for Pchum Ben will be safe, will respect all traffic laws and be tolerant of one another. He also called on the authorities to help make it easier for people to celebrate and hold their family reunions in this Pchum Ben season.

Pchum Ben is one of the largest festivals for Buddhists in Cambodia. Every year, on Pchum Ben day, all citizens gather together with their family members, especially with their parents at their hometowns, to prepare food to give to the monks living in pagodas. This has been the traditional practice of Cambodian Buddhists for a long time. The Kan Ben and Pchum Ben festivals in 2022 take place from 11-25 September 2022.
